The Archaeological museum in Almuñecar is an essential place to visit whilst staying on the Costa Tropical.
Visitors will learn more about the fascinating remains of Almuñecar´s historical past such as the collection of numerous objects discovered at the Necropolis of “Puente de Noy” and “Laurita” or the fish salting factory at the Majuelo Botanical Park. The Museum is also home to the most ancient document found in the Peninsula.
From an archaeological point of view, the most important piece is the stunning Egyptian Vase which dates back to XVII b.C. It is carved out of solid quartz and was discovered in a house in Almuñecar. Numerous Archaeologists think that this object is engraved with the most ancient script known in Spain.
Other archaeological finds include a large number of burial items ranging from urns to jewelry which formed part of the funeral dowries.
Phoenician art is represented by sculptures and adornments such as rings and diadems. |
